Tending the Fire
Romans 12:1 – “Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you
to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship.”
Leviticus 6:8-13 – “…‘the fire of the altar is kept burning on it… The fire on the altar is
to be kept burning; I must not go out… Fire must be kept burning on the altar continually; it
must not go out.’”
Matthew 3:11 – “‘I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who is coming
after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove his sandals. He himself will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.’”
Luke 12:49 – “‘I came to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already set
ablaze!’”
Acts 2:3 – “They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and rested on each one of
them.”
1. Exhaustion endangers the fire
Mark 6:31 – “…‘Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while.’…”
Isaiah 30:15 – “…‘You will be delivered by returning and resting; your strength will lie
in quiet confidence…’”
